Resources

If you are conducting historical research on the Town of Northampton, the resources on this page may be of use. In New York State, vital records are generally held by towns while property records are generally held by counties. For documents pertaining to birth, death and marriage, please contact the Northampton Clerk. For property tax records, you may search online through Fulton County’s Image Mate database. For other public property records including deeds and mortgages, you may (for a fee) search Fulton County’s IQS database, or go directly to the county building in Johnstown to search free of charge. For public records predating the creation of Fulton County in 1838, please consult the historical resources available in Montgomery County. Please note that all New York State residents are eligible for library cards from both the New York State Library and the New York Public Library, which offer extensive remote and on-site resources for historical research, including access to genealogical records, historical maps and historical newspapers. All researchers of NYS history should also be aware of Old Fulton Postcards, which is the largest online repository of historical New York State newspapers, as well as New York Historic Newspapers, a similar if smaller site - both free. For irregular historical records such as photographs and other ephemera, please consult the additional resources below.

Please note that the NNHS itself does not currently hold a searchable archive.
